Tile House

This is the kind of bungalow once ubiquitous in the Jiangnan region, but they are not so commonly seen today in the major cities of southern China as a result of the modernization drive during which skycrapers, apartments and all kinds of multi-stored houses built.
This is actually a new bungalow in the xiaohe street, it's empty and serves as a tourist site.

Sigh. I find it sad that you're losing these charming houses. Your decision to post this photo as a sepia is wonderfully evocative of an age that's disappearing. Beautiful.

I sincerely hope that you will not forget to save parts of the old China! This seems to be a step in the right direction!
